On my birthday meme

I've been tagged on this meme by the lovely Rhoda and the theme with Kate at the Five F's came up with sounds interesting - hey I could learn something here!

                                                               On my birthday

I don't know anything about anyone who was born on the same day as me except for my amazing twin brother.  He's 20 minutes older than me, has given me beautiful nieces and a nephew and a brilliant sister-in-law.

Just looking thru some pics - (l to r) my twin bro, me & my 'little bro on his wedding day.
Clowns to the left of me,  jokers to the right  Twin (l), lil' bro (r)

Marc Jacobs.

Apart from his clothes, I don't really know a lot about Jacobs, but the mine of information that is Wikipedia tells me his father, an agent at the William Morris Agency died when Marc was 7 years old.  He is listed in Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

What do I know about old IKB?  Well, he designed bridges right?

Well, yes he did, his most famous being the Clifton Suspension bridge.  He also designed Paddington station.  Did you know his ambitious father was determined he'd be a success, and before he reached double figures Isambard was fluent in French, understood engineering principles, technical drawing and plane geometry.  Meanwhile, Pa Brunel wound up in a debtor's jail.

Valerie Singleton.

Here's one I made earlier

Obviously best know for her role on Blue Peter where she presented for over 10 years.  I never knew foxy Val was from Hitchin in Hertfordshire, nor have I ever noticed the commemorative plaque from her official opening of our local country park.

Question 3.  Do you know anyone who was born on the same day and year as you?

Well, yeah, my twin brother!  I'm sticking with that because the Wikipedia entries for that date are somewhat dodgy - there's a Russian serial killer and an American porno star.

Question 4.  List 3 people who died on your birthday and tell us what you know about them.

OK, I've looked up a list and I can't find 3 people who I've ever heard of!  There's Frank Lloyd Wright the architect who died on my birthday on 1959.  The pre-raphaelite artist and writer Dante Gabrielle Rossetti died on the same date in 1882.

The wild card I've picked is Maurice Binder who died on 9th April 1991.  Who was he??  Well, recognise this?

He was a celebrated film title designer, who worked on 14 James Bond films was the creator of the iconic gun barrel opening credit, along with silhouetted naked ladies dancing and holding pistols!

Question 4: List 3 notable events which happened on your birth date.

My birthday seems to be quite a regal one in the historical calender.  Charles & Camilla thoughtfully chose it to get married on.  Way back when in 1413, King Henry V is crowned king of England and over in Denmark in 1440, Christopher of Bavaria is appointed king.

Much more solemn events include the funeral of Martin Luther King and the Tories winning an unprecedented 4th general election in 1992. That was a crap birthday.

Question 5: Tell us about a holiday which falls on your birthday.

My birthday often falls around Easter.  I remember being particularly gutted one year as a child when my birthday was on Good Friday and school friends bought me Easter Eggs for my birthday!  This year it will fall on Easter Monday.  But Easter is a moveable feast, so I'll mention the somewhat superfluous 'Day of the Finnish Language' celebrated in (where else?) Finland!

Finally tag some people to link up with the badge an write their own 'on my birthday' post.
